In 1974, Edna opened Ewajo Performing Arts, in response to the need for a community space that embraced and practiced equitable access to the performing arts, along with championing cultural diversity. Ewajo brought people from all backgrounds together to experience dance and health as a living expression of shared histories.
The name “Ewajo” comes from the Yoruba language of Nigeria, translating to “Come and Dance”. Our classes brought many people from diverse backgrounds together to experience dance as a living expression of shared histories.
Since 1975, the mission of Ewajo has been to bring the creative expression of dance to the community. Dance in a variety of forms has been the cornerstone of Ewajo's classes and performances.
